K1500 Suburban 5.7 4x4 problem

Asked by Edward Apr 06, 2018 at 05:09 PM about the 1999 Chevrolet C/K 1500 LS Extended Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just installed my front drive shaft, and when
placing it into 4wd Lo or High it will engage. The
problem is, when driving forward the Suburban
feels like there is a lot of resistance. I stuck my
head out the driver window when going about
5mph, and it looked like the driver wheel was
spinning about 3/4 of a turn and then locking up. It
looked liked it was sucking itself inward and
popping back out,  it then repeated the process
from the 3/4 turn. I bought this truck from a 3rd
party,  however he didn't tell me that the front drive
shaft was a jeep part.  Don't  know if that makes a
difference. The 4x4 selector switch inside the
Suburban doesn't light up to notify me when the
vehicle is in 4x4 Lo or High, but you can feel the
Suburban engage into 4x4. I have not replaced the
actuators for the front diff. This is everything I've
found online,  but can't find anything concerning
my problem.

Did you mean "engaged" my front drive shaft instead of "installed"? The previous owner didn't tell you probably because it is never a good idea to interchange parts on vehicles from different manufacturers. I am afraid that it does make a difference. Maybe another Guru will pick up on your question and provide you with a better answer.
