fuse 9 keeps blowing

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

the issue started about a month ago. dash lights/ taillights fuse blew. thought it may be trailer harness, changed out the plug, and checked wires for any bad places. none were found. so, i cleaned the ground attached to the truck. i unplugged the main harness to the rear, and tried a new fuse. it was work fine dash lights work. So, i plugged the rear back up, and pop. fuse blows after a couple seconds. i can't see any bad wires anywhere. i checked the tail lights both worked fine before the fuse blew again. do the plugs ever go bad?

yes....sadly to solve this problem (have seen them before) you'll need a "power probe" which has a tip that you can check for the presence of 12 volts with...you can apply ground with...you can "Juice it" with 12 volts all with the on-board breaker so you aren't starting fires here--- granted they aren't that cheap but this gives you the ability to check any wire and activate whatever can be activated~

I will tell all of you the REAL DEAL the cause is a design flaw , the core support panel behind the front amber lights is placed to close , therefor chafing occurs on the amber plug in wires. Solution : put a piece of GM plastic insulator covering around the wires .......PROBLEM SOLVED !

I know exactly what it is!!!!!!! It is the blinker switch. I’ve been having this problem for months. I’ve been searching through the wiring harness looking for a burnt wire. I crawled under the dash and decided to unplug the blinker switch to try something new and it never blew. Something shorted out in the blinker switch!!!! Problem solved.

#9 kept blowing after I was done towing a trailer. Plugged the trailer lights harness and two wires were disconnected and was causing a short. fixed and ready to go

If you have the tow kit check the trailer wiring harness ground wire. If there's rust buildup use whatever you need to to get good contact. Fixed my problem.
