1998 chevrolet c/k 1500 courtesy lights turn on and stay on after doors are closed

Asked by richie1971 Jun 24, 2013 at 02:07 AM about the 1998 Chevrolet C/K 1500 Cheyenne Extended Cab RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The courtesy lights go out briefly but come back on after the doors are closed.  The lights also are coming on when i hit the brakes or when i am rolling down the power windows.  Once i take my foot off the brakes or the power window switch the lights go back out.  Anyone have any ideas on what could be wrong??

This is a backfeed, or a short to power. Basically whats happening is your courtesy lights are having power applied to them from a circuit that it shouldnt receive it from. Youre going to need the wiring diagrams for the courtesy lights, brake lights, and power windows. Now find if they all have a common ground, splice, or anything at all in common. Start your search there. Youre looking for disconnected grounds, broken or chaffed wiring and the like. Good luck. This can potentially be a real ball breaker.
