What is causing my 1997 Chevrolet Silverado no to start?

Asked by Ryantb Mar 20, 2015 at 12:45 PM about the 1997 Chevrolet C/K 1500 WT RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Truck sometime starts and runs great, sometimes runs rough, other times will not
start.
I have replaced the distributor,cap,rotor,cam position sensor,ignition module,coil,plugs
and wires only after a reader threw a code for them all. Fuel pump is running, however i
know that does not always mean it is building enough pressure.  The last time i went
to start it all it would do was crank over, then back fire when i let off the key.  Fast
forward 2 days later it started right up, but it ran terrible. It was backfiring, shaking, and
trying to die. the code reader is also throwing a code saying misfire on the right bank. I
am going to check fuel pressure at the rail next. Any other ideas?

Replace the fuel filter to it can be making the truck run on a lean mixture of gas

Mine did same thing and all it was a short in wires leading down from sensor on distributor to wiring harness.
