where is the cam sensor on a 1997 chevy 1500 pickup

The camshaft position sensor (also known as the distributor pickup) is inside the distributor which is driven by the camshaft gear and directly below the water pump, the water pump must be removed to access the distributor to change the sensor. On my 97 C1500 the distributor is in the back of the engine, all you have to do is remove distributor cap, rotor & there it is. not a big job.
