i have a chevy 97 z71 4x4 starts fine runs cruddy especially at idle &loss pwr steering

we have changed caps & rotors twice, new spark plugs/wires and still got
isssues with running smooth ( worse when at idle). I feel its not getting enough
power or something.  I also loss pwr steering when not on gas but then comes
back  when im above 2500 rpm.

They is a few things you should check, such as your fuel pump pressure, first change the fuel filter. If that checks out Ok, I would start looking for a vacuum leak on the hoses leading up to the Throttle body. While you are there clean the throttle body with a good throttle body cleaner. I would then check the AIR IDLE CONTROL Sensor, the connector sometimes will come losse. also note that high ethonal content in fuel will cause the issues you are having.
