The plug ends are dedicated to where they go, can not plug into anything else but for what it is designed for. You just have to look..

it may go somewhere or not, But a loose electrical conection usually will not cause a miss, so the wire might of been there for along time, change the dist cap, rotor, plugs and wires and im sure all will be fine

as a the owner of any car, you should know your firing order and plug sizes, etc. That's one of the first things to become acquainted with. and easy way to remember the F O is write down on the inside of the hood or on a fender some place where you will know exactly what that code is AND it wouldn't hurt to even write down the spark plug gap width as well!!
