Question type: Car Customization

I have a 94 silverado with a small block 350 with a
tbi and wanted to put a differnt set of heads and a
cam I have all that and I figured why not swap out
the tbi for a carburetor while I there I'm also
converting it from automatic to manual so I won't
have to worry about the throttle postion sensor
but my concern is with keeping the fuel pump in
because I plan on using the stock electric pump
but after hours of looking on YouTube I get a
differnt answer each time

That will be a must do if your changing the cam. Also depending on the ignition system you currently have you may need to go with a stand along distributor so the computer doesn’t control the ignition timing. The stock fuel pump will flood the carburetor, you need a really good fuel pressure adjustable regulator, the good thing is you still have a fuel return line so will really help. Usually a 4 to 5 fuel pressure setting will work it just depends on just how wild the cam is.

What's wrong with the motor that's in it ? You'll have numerous problems mocking all that up . I'd keep the TBI . honestly , if you have to come on here looking for advice then you're not up to the challenge . If you up the power on the motor it'll start breaking the old worn original drive train , just saying .

Interesting conversion. A carb. set up needs an exhaust system cross over right to left side cylinder head to warm the base of the carb. Fuel pressure for most carb set ups was 4-6psi. The TBI FP was about 15 psi. A FP regulater should be installed. Will this vehicle be able to pass State Inspection....Smog Tests?

Keep in mind this is an OBD I vehicle and is computer controlled. Nothing newer than a '94 model will work and I don't think GM was making anything with a carburetor that late. You might have to go back into the late 80s to find a compatible Rochester but then there's the wiring. To do this you're asking for never ending problems in my opinion! Good luck to you! Jim
