Negative. The '96 van will have a 4L60e tranny the '92's had the 700r4. However the 4L60e is similar (newer electric shift version) it will bolt up (as long as they are both 2wd or both 4wd). There are aftermarket tranny controllers that run from about 500 to 1000 that will operate the tranny in an older vehicle. I have an older unit from TCI from Summit it works pretty good. The 4L60e is a little better than a 700r4 for reliability. I'm going to use my controller on a '94 4L80e in my '92 GMC, lets see if I can wreck that monster tranny.
