oil change

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

What is the best oil to use in my new 2007 Camry 2.4 ? What replacement oil filter fits the 2.4? Is it fairly easy to change the oil myself? I am a girly girl...but want to learn to do my own maintainance. Any help??

Hi Girlygirl (Courtney)! Your owners manual should have oil recommendations in it or a call to your dealer should get you the party line. That will also get you the replacement filter for your new car. Here's a generic ho-to on changing the oil so you can get an idea of whether you want to take on the job: http://www.ehow.com/how_11_change-motor-oil.html .In the meantime here's a valuable discussion about oil and your choices. Hope it helps! Good luck Courtney! http://www.nordicgroup.us/oil.htm

use 0W20 synthetic or 5W-20 oil. Can use Toyota or various 3rd party filers

I would recommend the oil viscosity listed in your owners manual . the type of oil varies , but the best is full synthetic oil ( like Castrol Syntec , or Mobil 1 ) . Synthetic oil provides the best protection , and oil changes can be stretched to longer intervals when you use it , as it lasts longer then conventional oil before it breaks down .( 5-7 thousand miles between changes , depending on driving habits ) Use a high quality oil filter , cheaper filters are ...well ...not as good . Try using a genuine Toyota filter , or Wix , or Kralinator , these are good brands .
