Leaky Gasket? What am I looking at?

Asked by Laughing on the outs... Apr 16, 2020 at 05:17 PM about the 1997 Subaru Legacy L Wagon AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I bought a 1997 Subaru Legacy L Wagon. It has a
salvage title. Since then I had an issue where the
car went from starting to NOT starting. It’d take
several turns and only when I turned and held the
key would the engine turn over.
I had a new starter put in and no problem. Now I’ve
got a burning smell under the hood where she’s run
long. There seems to be visible oil on the engine on
the passenger side that burns. I’d like to dins the
leak and hand it fixed. Anyone know what the
possibilities are?

Probably the typical Subaru head gasket failure. Your car is not worth fixing!
