Hood Release

Asked by GTEUP07 Aug 12, 2016 at 09:06 PM about the 2003 Jaguar S-TYPE 4.2L V8 RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I own a 2003 S Type Jaguar and today
went to open the hood but nothing
happened. I can feel the cable on the latch
on the inside of the car so it must be
broken under the hood. Does anyone know
if I can open the hood without it so I can
R/R it?
Thanks

when you say you can feel the cable on the latch. can you disconnect the cable from the release handle and see if it is actually broke or just stretched? if the cable is just stretched you should be able to disconnect it from the handle and then pull it with a pair of pliers to release the hood. otherwise you would need to be able to get under the car to release it but my suggestion would be to go to the repair shop and ask for an oil change and let them get it open (most places dont think about charging for this as it serves them to get the hood open ) and then you can have them rig something to make it easier for you to open when you are ready to replace it and the jiffy lube type places will just send you on your way so need to hit a mids or good year type of shop.
