Are you seeing blue smoke from the tailpipe? If so it's burning oil. If you only see the smoke when the engine is idling the valve guide seals are bad. Not a cheap fix but not terrible either. If you're seeing the smoke while driving or accelerating the piston rings are worn and it's not worth fixing. Burning oil will absolutely ruin the catalytic converter and oxygen sensors, among other things. Hope that helps! Jim
