I brought my daughter a Jeep Patriot 2008 from a used car dealership.  They only had one original key.  I want to make a second key for emergencies. The manual states that I can only make a spare key and program it if I had the two original keys at hand.  There is a transponder in each of the original keys that must be present in order for you to make a spare key. I really don't want to go to the dealership to get ripped off.

When I go to reprogram the keys with the alarm, it pauses for the 2nd original key. I have the blanks already cut so they will unlock the car and fit the ignition. When I try to start it with the new keys, the engine pretends to turn over and then it stops. Any suggestions?
