loud noise and poor acceleration

Asked by GuruWPH9P May 19, 2018 at 12:41 PM about the 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt LS Coupe FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I woke up one morning to find my chevy cobalt a
little louder than normal and drove it anyway. The
next day it seemed even louder which raised my
eyebrow as to what is going on. I thought my
catalytic converter was stolen since this is a
prblem in my area, but after checking it seems to
be intact. What could this problem be.

Exhaust is leaking somewhere other than the converter.

Agree. Have the exhaust system inspected. There's a flex joint right at the engine that goes as well as the muffler itself and there's a joint in the system about mid way back with a gasket that can fail. Mine has had all of the above over the years.

I'm having the same issues now, did you ever find out what it was? I think it's my catalytic converter as well

See my answer above. It costs nothing to have your exhaust system inspected and evaluated.

My car out of nowhere just started to start to hiccup sound from the exhaust and the traction service was lighting up on the dial and the engine light came on too and it also stalled once and when I'm driving it, it makes a rugged hiccup stuttering noise and stops for a few seconds and goes back again what could be going on?

Scan it for trouble codes. That will give you some direction. Also make sure battery connections are clean and tight.
