Touring Tire?

That would depend on your driving style and conditions. Do you want all weather tires or summer only? Track or street? 2,000 miles on a set or 40,000 miles?

For safety I would want the same type of tire front and back.

I agree with above. If car is still pretty much as factory under the hood and not heavily modded then I would stick with factory style and size tires.

For decades I had TA Goodrich tires. Great traction and good milage on the tires. I just put on four Hankook tires: 265 X 50 X 15 front, 295 X 50 X 15 rear and feel these offer a smoother ride, getter traction, and less road noise. Like F_O_R said above, it matters what you want. The softer tires give better traction but wear out quickly. All weather tires are harder, ride is harsh, Summer tires are soft rubber, med. wear, but not the best in the wet. If it is a show car, go for the tread looks.
