Overheating

Asked by Bugginout72 Jun 29, 2016 at 03:57 AM about the 2007 Chevrolet Impala LS FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I flushed my radiator today filled with 50/50
but in the process the radiator cap broke
so it screws on but doesn't release
pressure or whatever. It has been
overheating ever since so is the thermostat
or could the broken cap be the cause ?

If the engine had not overheated before, chances are you didn't purge the cooling system from air pockets when refilling the system. The radiator cap is suppose to seal, so that the cooling system would build up pressure. If the system build up too much pressure, the radiator cap is to release some of the pressure into the overflow tank.

My 2003 I Impala is building up pressure and is getting hot done blead it a couple of times but it keeps doing the same thing
