No brake lights, turning signals, or vent fan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

A few days ago my husband was on his way home
from work in his 2007 Ford Explorer Sport Trac XLT
when all of a sudden the truck shut off, and his
dashboard went haywire. It came back on and he
drover to the nearest auto parts store. They
checked his battery and said he needed a new one.
So he bought a new one. But then he couldn't get it
out of Park. He had to use the tab on the side to
get it into gear and also realized that he had no
brake lights or turning signals and the vent fan isn't
working. He has checked everything. He's checked
the fuses and ground wires. We've replaced the
turning signal switch and the brake light switch but
there is still no turning signals, brake lights or vent
fan. We are at our wits end. Please give us some
advice.

Newer trucks like yours are all computer controlled so your going to need a scan tool that can check all modules in the truck. The cheap ones wont do. If you do find someone with a good tool than you can pull the codes on the GEM and Cluster to see what happened.

Thank you. We went and had it scanned. Also had alternator and battery checked. Both were fine. We are researching the codes. They are: B2290 B1317 B2293 B1676 B1483 P1000

We're going to take it by the shop this week and see what they say. We just really don't have the money for this right now. Really hoping this is something easy and affordable.

With that many codes it's going to take a while to go through all the wiring and systems involved. Your probably going to have to drop it off at the shop for a day or so. Hope it's something simple like light bulbs. good luck.

none of those codes will help in diagnosing your concern b1483 maybe caused by a bad brake switch. check the charging system to see if its putting out anything above 14.8v you may have a over volatge concern

So the mechanic calls and it's the Shift Interlock Solenoid. It's about $30 and really easy to replace. Thank you everyone for your input.
