How much would it cost to swap engine? Replace (manual) transmission?

Asked by Cedrick May 05, 2019 at 05:51 PM about the 2007 Ford Focus ZX3 SE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2007 ford focus, manual transmission. I was wondering how much it would cost to (pay someone to) swap the engine. Has anyone done this with their cars? How was the process? I also wanted to know if it would be better to replace my manual transmission. It has a hard time going into first gear and reverse. Also, when I shift from first to second gear, I hear (and feel) a big thumping noise from the bottom of the car. Advice?

When you do replace the transmission mount, be sure to get a good urethane mount!! The ones you get for a cheap price at Auto zone (et all) last about a year, and you're right back where you started. As a bonus, odds are the passenger side engine mount will last a lot longer. I currently have urethane mounts on the transmission, and the left side engine mount. If the the "hydraulic" mount on the passenger side does fail again, it will get a new urethane mount as well.
