What is wrong with display?

The digital display in the dashboard is showing rapidly changing random
letters/numbers.  Pressing and holding reset does nothing.

this is what we in the trade right here in Dayton, Ohio call a classic digi dash syndrome, you will need to check the wiring harness on your automobile for signs of water and dry out any components that are damp, if not remove the digi dash and replace

Sometimes unhooking the negative battery cable for like 5 minutes can "reboot" these systems. Sometimes not.
