Replacement engine for 2006 Audi A4 2.0t quattro

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I need to replace the engine for my Audi and
somebody mentioned I could buy a Volkswagen
engine (essentially the same thing) from a parts
yard and use the stock turbo on my old engine
instead of buying the engine from an Audi with the
turbo and save money as a result. My question is
what model year Volkswagens have the same
engine as my car and will this work without many
unforseen complications? What do you think this
will cost and or save me?

I would buy a new crate engine or if mechanically inclined rebuild it , I don't know what you would save with the latter , any money saved would cost you aggravation , to me it doesn't make sense to go through all that and install a used part of unknown reliability , anything that doesn't match is just more trouble
with the older cars sure you can use one from a volkswagon but for the same money as you spend on a used one you could have that one rebuilt provided you did not have a timing belt go. That usaly means new heads and pistons. if you can try toi find an engine from the same car tho audi does some stuff different then VW so not everything will be the same. and be sure to grab the other cars ECU other wise the car might not work.
Did you do the swap from VW to the Audi. I am going thru the situation. Ihave a 2008 passat 2.0 turbo I want to install into a 2006 Audi 2.0 Quattro. The long block should be the same and I will be using the intake from the Audi, so it should be no brainer. Any input from someone that has done this.

I have to replace the Audi A4 2.0T Quattro engine, the question is: Is an Audi 2.0L, the same engine?, or compatible.
Hi @C230SeattleGuy! Were you able to swap the engine? I have a A4 2.0T Quattro and looking into 2.0L but unsure if it's doable
