So, the 6cyl '06 LL Bean Outback 5spd AT was flashing the "sport" light while in town driving, any common problems associated w/ this tranny or PCM?

This vehicle was just recently purchased, so we haven't had the chance to drive it under too many different road conditions, It has 156,000+/- miles on it. I am not the driver, just the maintenance. Apparently, when being driven around town today, something happened causing the vehicle to flash the 'sport' shift indicator light, and it sounds like it shifted directly from 1st to 4th or 5th. The driver pulled over, cycled the vehicle "off", but did not remove the key from the ignition. When they returned to the home/ garage where I am and shut the vehicle off, the key was removed. We went for a drive, the car did not have a problem

There should be transmission trouble codes to be read. Once you know the codes post them here.

I realize there should be codes to retrieve, but don't have access to an OBD scanner; I know in older vehicles you could retrieve codes by cycling the ignition a certain # of times to get the check engine light to flash sequences... I was hoping for more specific info on this model

Without reading the codes you can't get specific information. The key trick is for OBD1 cars. Your car is OBD2.

So, I'm getting code p1706 speed sensor fault. It is intermittent. Is there additional info out there for these vehicles trigger this code?
