What size engines were in th 69 fastback?

Asked by Ruth Jan 10, 2007 at 02:47 PM about the 1969 Ford Mustang Fastback RWD

Question type: General

I had a 69 fastback and I swear it had a 405 engine.  Everyone tells me I'm crazy.  What size engines were available in that model?

Dear Ruth-- The 1969 Mustang had all kinds of choices for you to make regarding options, including seven different engines. I'll send you to the following site for details- http://www.theautochannel.com/vehicles/muscle/mustang/f69mcont.frame. Good luck from Bovan.

You are correct they also had the special option of the 429 cj which is the rarest of them all.

I think that the 429cj was only an option in torinos, cyclones, and 71 mustangs

the 427cj was also available but the 429 was an option with the boss package as well as the 302 and the 351 windsor. The Cleveland wasn't in use till 1970.

the 427 was not know as a Cobra Jet and was not an option in 69...it was in 68, 429cj isnt the same as a boss 429...boss 429s were produced by Kar Kraft for Ford. Boss wasnt just an option you had to special order the car same with the boss 302, those were only produced to homogolate the engines for SCCA and Nascar. there were a few 351C s produced in late 69 (this is debated)

not a 351 cj, those were in 70, in 69 it was 351 Windsor and maybe a few late production 351 Clevelands.

yeah some of the 429CJ coded cars actually ended up having 3501 clevelands... oops... demmand was too high... ford fixed all that though back then...

Ford made a 406 ford motor for 1 year in 1963. In 1964 Ford made a 427 wedge head (hemi head) for that year only.
