Asked by Evan Aug 20, 2008 at 07:45 PM about the 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 302 Fastback RWD

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

I have found a 1969 Mustang Coupe with a 351 Boss engine, runs great, tranny good, needs new Paint very badly, has rebuilt floor boardsand less than 80k miles. the only thing, that it really nees is a new interior, the car literally has a dashboard and steering wheel, no seats, carpets. a parts car is free with car that has perfect interior but frame/engine/drivetrain is rusted and wont roll. what should i pay, i am a mechanic and can do all the work myself, again...what should i pay/is it worth it. please give a reason for your answer

Restoring it to numbers matching would be the best bet. I would give $5000 or less due to the general condition and amount of work required.

if you are looking to make a numbers matching car, then it really wouldn't work for you. But, if you are wanting something fun to drive, I think it could be done. I would say $3500.

Engine being incorrect would reduce your value as a restoration. But it should not deter you if you want to build a car and have fun. The towing and extra work you can estimate knowing your own facilities and availability. If you are free to concentrate on it and can see it coming together for you? stay around 3K and see if they want to sell it bad enough. You can change engines at a later date if you find one.

Rust is a real issue, be sure the one you build is rust repaired or you will have much patching ahead.
