Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello my car is a 2005 Mustang V6 with no modifications. I recently noticed I
had a battery leak from the negative terminal. I replaced the battery and went
to start my car, it started but will not allow me to accelerate. I am also now
getting the engine warning light and the fail safe mode and check charging
system message are showing. Please any advice.

Did you clean the terminals before you put them on the new battery? Could be a bad connection. Also check the grounds and clean them. These cars are known for weak alternators as well. Is there an engine light/code that you can pull? Fail safe can be cause by a number of things, typically when a sensor measures a parameter and it is out of spec.
