2002 mustang GT convertible lights on mirror staying on too long

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

am currently scratching my head on this one. When I close, open or use my keypad to lock or unlock the doors my lights on the mirror stay on for a timed 35 minutes. I will tell you this is a salvage car and was just now fixed, I have no idea if something was knocked loose in the crash or what has happened.

It's a salvage and there seems to be a short of some sort. My question is that light that important to you? if not just disconnect it and not use it. You will make yourself crazy trying to find the issue..

COMETGUY61 Great quick solution, until you figure it out, Kiss keep it simple stupid, a lot of kids these days love to over complicate things!

I have the same problem and none of the above "solutions" are acceptable.Since the light does go off eventually my best guess is that there is a timer and/or relay that is defective. When I get to looking at the wiring diagram to see what's what, I hope to find this and simply replace it.

Here is something to try that I found on corral.net: Make sure your dimmer switch is not clicked all the way up. If you turn it to a certain point it clicks and turns on the interior lights. If that isn't the problem, I believe your car also has door sensors that get gummed up over time. Spray the hinges down with a healthy dose of WD-40 and open and close the doors a few times. EDIT: Actually, since they went off it isn't the dimmer switch. Lube the door hinges. I will check into this tomorrow if I get time

Turn headlight switch clockwise. See below: This was happening to me, and I didn’t notice it the way that my rearview mirror was and my battery kept going dead. When I looked in the user manual, they are called courtesy lights. Even though you click the buttons on them, they still won’t turn off. On the knob that you pull to turn your headlights on, you have to turn that knob clockwise all the way to the right and the lights will no longer do that and you will be able to control them manually with the buttons on the mirror
