Trouble with my 2003 eddie Bauer explorer
Asked by Joshua Sep 21, 2020 at 09:55 PM about the 2003 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer V6
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
So a hose broke and it started over heating on my
wife she pulled over and I met up with her an hour
later. I added water and it started and we was
trying to get it a little closer to the main town. It
started getting hot I shut it off and coasted for a
bit started it back up and got off at the exit. It was
still running then I shut it off. We went back the
next morning and it will not start. Got it towed
home. I have replaced the coil, knock sensor, cam
sensor, and crank shaft sensor. And all it does is
turn over but won't even try to fire . I pulled the
plugs it has spark. The fule pump is working been
replaced last year with filter. It also has
compression and it holds. I'm stumped. Can y'all
help??

Just because you replaced the fuel pump a while ago does not mean it wasn't damaged, you can try spraying starting fluid into the intake ducting and see if it fires. If you have compression and spark and it was running when you shut it off then fuel is where I would look

Theres also a fuel pump reset switch I can't remember the exact name but it's designed if a accident happens it kills the fuel pump and if that tripped it would explain your issue

The op plainly said that he didn't let it fully overheat and also has trying to fix it himself. He asks a question to a "guru" on where to look next to repair the car and you say take it to a shop lol

Ok I see what your saying your saying that because he shut it off and coasted and then re started and drove. So yeah does make it sound like he drove it while it was hot and if that's the case then there could be more damage my bad.
The fuel pump reset used to be at the passenger side kick panel in the early 2000's. Try looking for it there.
When I done a compression test it was 80 psi. A friend said that was fine. But others I read about said 120 psi. I already tried to rest fule pump. I smell fule when I try to start it has spark. And when I spray starting fluid it still won't fire. So I'm going to do another compression test and add 2 tea spoons of oil in spark plug hole to see if it goes up. replace the coolest temp sensor and run a code reader tomorrow. What do yall think?

Sounds like head gasket failure, needs to be opened up to see why the low compression. I would still always do a wet compression test because if the rings are bad you can do all the head gaskets you want but it isn't going to fix nothing. Also with failed hg you will typically find two low compression cylinders right next too each other. 80 is to low and you also may have warped a head/block. If you dont have the time or patience to see through repairing it yourself then find a reputable shop. Otherwise you know that your compression is too low on most cars anything lower then 120 definitely isn't firing
