Coolant quantity for Jetta Mk4 2.0l

Just did a radiator flush on my jetta. I drained the
radiator, then closed the valve, filled it with some
water, ran the car for about 5 minutes, and then
drained the radiator again. Each time I drained the
radiator, about 3.5 liters of fluid came out. When I
topped it up with the new coolant, it only took
about 3 -3.5L. Apparently these things have a
coolant system with a capacity of about 5.3L. I’m I
doing something wrong?

The block also holds some in it even when you drain radiator the motor will still have old antifreeze regardless
Thanks Lee. My concern now is, I filled it once with water to flush it, and then drained it again before filling with new coolant. I’m now worried my collant ratio to water is off. I love in a location where it can get -30 during the day. The coolant I added was mixed at a ratio of 60/40, however, when I added water to do the flush, I’m worried that there would have been water only sitting in the block when I added the fresh coolant. Should I be concerned?
Go to the parts store and buy a cheap antifreeze tester. It will tell you whether the mix is correct or not.
yep and when you do the flush you need to turn the heater on cause most cars are heated by the antifreeze. so that may be where a bit of that water went to as well.
You must drain and fill 3 times to flush all the antifreeze from the system..water jackets etc.
When I drain and flush the 2.0l VW engine I refill with full strength antifreeze, don't dilute it. That way when done your mixture will be over the recommended 50/50.
