2005 Tahoe Z71 Lifter Ticking that goes away with Oil Pressure isues??

It may be a weak lifter, about the only thing aside from replacing is to find which one it is and adjust it. That may or may not take care of it. I think I would keep on with the oil treatment for the time being, trying to remove any varnish and adjust, check the rocker arm for adjustment.

Any ideas on why the oil pressure would not go up until the ticking stopped?

Just got back here, out in the garage lighting a fire, Well, depending on what time of year that motor was manufactured, it was at this time I believe 2006, may be 2005, can't remember. but GM put a fine screen type basket under the oil pressure sending unit that does get gummed up causing false pressure readings. It may be yours has this. You check by taking out the oil pressure sending unit, and then have to fish out this screen. Then clean it good, and replace. Since you have to be a monkey to get at this, you might as well replace the oil sending unit while you have it out.

MIne does almost exactly the same thing 5.3 L Tahoe 2005 . I have been told after 170K miles the lifter just became worn out. i have tried flush, a little tranny fluid, allowing a few professionals to take a crack at it like and the lifter knock keeps coming back. it goes away after 7-10 miles but the lifter knock when it comes back is beginning to get pretty loud. i may be looking at re-powering next year

I wish i had an answer mine does same thing after 5 min of ideling lifter tick then rev it and drive it goes away i guess its common in thes engines a lifter adjustment im guessing last resort.. Im gunna keep trying the treatment to clean lifter a bit its annoying thats for sure

Mine does same thing. Ticking is lasting longer and louder. Had lifters replaced and again, same problem. I am getting scared to drive it. I had someone suggest changing oil pump but can't promise me anything bc I never replaced idiot guages when they went out.I check water and oil atleast monthly and have never ran it low. I'm hoping someone can offer help on here, where do I go next?

Sometimes the rubber gasket on the pick up tube. That goes from the oil pan to oil pump goes bad. Not allowing enough suction to the oil pump at idle for it to reach the rockers. Thicker oil would help. Also Pcv valve should be checked for venting.
