2004 tahoe ac problems

When i bought my car the ac didnt work. Ended up
replacing whole compressor and all. Now some
times the compressor want kick on at all... some
times it will in the middle of driving. Other times it
will get hot, cold and hot again. What could be the
problem!?

Low charge. Cannot keep up when hot outside but cools great at night or early morning. Relay working intermittently.
