My car won't accelerate 2004 Subaru outback

The other morning I went out to my
car warmed it up to temperature then
started my drive to work after driving
about a mile I turned onto another
road and went to accelerate and
nothing would happen. The check
engine light came on and the cruse
control light kept flashing The car
was still able to move when it was in
gear but no matter what when I
pressed the gas peddle it wouldn't
go

Definitely Scan the code (use and OBDII reader - there are many inexpensive ones available) there is a lot of infor on the web about these indications e.g. http://www.planetsubaru.com/subaru-check-engine- light.htm . If could be one or more components but your code scan results will give you the best indication of where too look next. Most modern computer controlled engines go into whats called "limp" mode to help you slowly move the vehicle to safety and/or service.
