Switch backlighting

Asked by Jelco Nov 11, 2009 at 06:14 PM about the 2003 Subaru Outback Base Wagon

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The backlighting for my foglight switch (dash) and passenger side seat heater switch (console) is burned out.  Any ideas on how access these bulbs without breaking something?  I'm very good at breaking things.

Thanks.

The backlights are replaceable, but not from Subaru. There are two globes in the switch, one for when the headlights come on and one to tell you the switch is activated. Both are different wattages. (It's been a while since I looked at the switch, but from memory one is brown and one is white. Don't get them mixed up as it affects the brightness of the switch) In Australia, (where I am from,) Holden use the same globes. Maybe Chevvy, if you are elsewhere. I just took the globe in and the friendly parts man assisted, (but I was lucky he knew what I was talking about) Access to the switch itself is a bit of a pain, but essentially you need to remove the trim around the switch. The switch simply pops out and the two globes can be screwed out using a Phillips screw-driver.
