2005 Merc Montego rt tail light

2005 Merc Montego rt tail light not working although a couple of the leds do light. Everything else, directional, back up etc work. The wiring in the car has been tested by mechanic and no issues. I read the blog from 5 years ago Crash 227 switched a 2008 Sable and someone else used a Taurus, I got a Taurus with the harness attached and the right OEM number, plugged in, but only one light come on in the Taurus assembly?
