Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Its a 2005 mercury mariner. Last night we turned
it on and heard a loud woosh and pop . then it
steamed and smoked there was a huge puddle of
unknown fluid by the right passenger headlight
and tire and under there all on the ground. We
checked the cars antifreeze/coolant reservoir
and it was just full but now empty. We filled it up
let it cool it ate about half of it so we re filled and
now its over heating and the fluid disapears
within 2-4 miles. What could this be. nothing like
this has happened before.

First of all you have a leak that is what was on the ground. The pop was most likely pressure in the cooling system being released as the fluid came out suddenly due to the leak. When you fill the system and coolant disappears does this mean no coolant seen anywhere leaking? when you refiled did you permit it to purge and recede as air in the system escaped ? Is the serpentine belt still intact?
