my 2006 dodge charger trunk will not open unless I use the key to open it.

I have the same problem with my Chevy mini van. I can't find the answer, either. Just have to keep using the key, I guess...:)

Wire bundle from the right side of the trunk up to the trunk lid contain wires for the High Rear Stop Light in the trunk lid and the Trunk Remote Open actuator. Apparently those wires will break over time and will need to be spliced. Simple job, just time consuming.
