Chevy Silverado won't start.

Asked by Victoria Apr 20, 2017 at 08:17 AM about the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 1LT Extended Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Driving to work this morning stopped at a gas
station. Came back to my truck, attempt to start it
one click and completely dead. No accessory lights,
no noise, like someone completely stole the battery.
One of the lovely gas station attendents hooked it
up to his 2500. Which got the accessory lights to
turn on, can hear the solenoid click but no such
luck on starting it. Wondering if it could be a bad
ground, completely dead battery? I mean when it's
about to be jumped the solenoid is clicking so I
don't think it's the starter. Never had any issues
starting it.

It could be all of that, it should have started with a jump. But if the battery has a short in it, there wouldn't be enough charge to turn over the starter. Not to rule the starter out. Should have the battery checked out first, if all is good with it, then look at the starter. Also check the battery connections, may be corroded, and the battery cables to see if there in good shape, no visible corrosion at the connector ends.

I am having the same thing with my 2015 silverardo... About 6 months ago, same. Turned key to start and dash went black.. Triple A came, load tested battery... Said ok.. Towed truck home. The next morning it started fine.. Yesterday, 19-Feb-2019, it happened twice. Strange thing is, I can use my remote starter and it will start.. This truck has some sort of starting sequence. you turn the key and can immediately let it go.. The truck will then start it self.... I'm thinking something to do with the key switch.....

Changed the starter had the better checked but when I tried to jump it off I go a spark hooking up the neutral. How do I begin to look for a dead short?

Mine wouldn't start or jump start. Just a click. Disconnected the ground to the battery then reconnected. Started right up. FM!
