Wheel speed sensors are located at the hub of each wheel.

Thanks but not those the the one on the transmission
I understand the the speed sensor is inside the transmission. It is necessary to drop the pan and valve body to gain access.

I was told that there was one on the outside. by the transaxle?
Not any more. The picture you have is actually one of the wheel speed sensors. The wire running into the hub is it! The ABS system reads all 4 wheels and sends a signal to your Speedometer. It is no longer on a cable or driven by a gear on the output shaft. It never was inside the Transmission Pan. Are you having concerns with your Soeedometer or a transmission code?

Yes. Sometimes my speedometer stops working and my car barely will move and shifts late and hard. All kinds of lights come on so I brought it to get checked and was told it read speed sensor.
A wheel bearing can fail and short out a wheel speed sensor. I had this concern with an Explorer with a similar setup. If someone hooked up a scan tool and watched all 4 speed sensors while driving the car slowly, you can see which one is not working. The Explorer I had was a full- time 4x4 and the right front wheel bearing had shorted out the wheel speed sensor causing the anti-lock and the Trac Control systems to to mess up, apply the brakes and intermittently short out the whole anti-lock brake system. I could only see this failure with a scan tool that allowed me to monitor the antilock system.

But will the wheel speed sensor mess up the shifting of the transmission. And eccelleration
Yes. The computer relies on information from the ABS and several engine inputs to determine when to shift and to which gear.

Ok so I got the wrong Sensor then. And thats on a 2008 ford taurus you're talking about right?

Did you ever figure out which sensor it was ? Having the same issue on a 2008 Ford Taurus SEL. The cluster would act weird and the speedometers stops working and gear shifting hits hard when you change it
