My Dodge diesel 6.7 was running good and when I came home from work, shut off and 2 hours later I went to start and the engine turns over, but will not start. I thought it was a fuel problem, so loosen injector and turned over and had fuel. I tried to run engine analyses and nothing. It appears there the electrical has shut down, but the engine still turns over. Are the fuel injectors electrically pulsed or by pressure form pump? The only thing that come up is check gauges. No engine light at all.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Turned truck off and about 2 hours later, tried to start and the engine turned over, but would not fire up.  I checked to make sure it had fuel at the injectors and it did.  Are the injectors controlled by electrical pulse or by fuel pump pressure?  The only thing that show a problem is when you turn key on a check gauges light comes on.  Engine turns over, but will not fire up.  This a Dodge 2007 6.7 diesel with 187,400 miles on truck.  Clean air filter, oil level is good.  Ran engine analyses and could not gat any reading.

This can be caused by weak battery in your diesel, check them first, have seen them do this, even thoe truck turns good,it still want crank,if batterys are good, check the glow plugs.

Does the dash instrument glow plug light come on? Could be a glow plug problem, but it should still start after a 3rd engine rotation start. Diesel fuel is injected from the injectors, by either, hydro release.....older diesel designs , and modern efi..electric control injectors , controlled by the ecu electronic control box...unit...circuit board inside. Some car manufacturers did a semi cross over, hydraulic injectors but with addtinal electronic, sensors for pump cold start timing and one injector with a sensor on it... Just look at your injectors....are there wires coming of all of them......if there is...its ecu controlled release. If not, and just metal pipes and heavy looking injectors, its hydro release injector system.
