my key will open the door and alarm will not go off , but the ignition will not work can the alarm be removed?

Asked by K66car Jul 29, 2015 at 08:42 AM about the 2008 Mercury Grand Marquis LS

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car was driving yesterday . But, today I pressed the key ring to turn the alarm off and
open the door locks. It would not work. The key ring or the locks . But, when I put the key
in the door it unlocked. But then when I put the key into the ignition it would not turn off.
Is the alarm interfering with the ignition or do i need a new battery for the remote ? Why
will the car not run ? and can the alarm be removed all together ?

Check the battery in the remote. If it is an aftermarket alarm system it generally requires input from the remote to disable. Sometimes there is an override button if it is aftermarket.

Thanks , I did have an aftermarket alarm on the car. The remote was not the problem , but a dead battery to the car. But, I had the dearlership take out the aftermarket alarm. But, they did say afterwards the remotes on 2 key rings were not working and did not need a battery for the remote. . This was a used car for me and I am glad I got rid of the aftermarket alarm. It interfered with too many functions.
