My 08 Ford Escape is making a new click
Asked by John Jul 24, 2015 at 12:30 AM about the 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid AWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Click happens directly under the center
console gear selector. It only happens once,
r right after I depress the brake pedal, but it
happens every time. It will click with the
vehicle in "on", but not in "park", even worth
the brakes pressurized. I recently had
shocks, struts, brake calipers, bars, and
transfer case ans rear differential fluid
replaced. Alignment was also done. More
recently, I had a new key programmed by
ford.

cradle shifting ? is that not FWD? it can be the twist of torque against liquid filled mounting insulators, or loose cradle bolt. the thing is, you need the tech to observe as you reproduce it, then see if it is something they forgot to tighten? or a recall? a bulletin? a trans control to the shifter? they will ask to verify, offer to show it to them. The brakes put a twist onto the axle parts and the powertrain assembly responds by being lifted at the back, when you release, it relaxes back the other way. during this event it sets it up, when it relaxes, you get the click. ask them to find it. are you sure you have a rear differential? I am thinkin that's like a taurus. there are a few people discussing possibilities.................try googling (08 escape click under shifter) there are some opinions about shiftlock actuator sol. and the shifter itself. If your symptoms are the exact same you could get told the same answer. if your sound just started after repair... then they must recheck the safety of their work. I would ask.
I see there, the fading print above says hybrid AWD, that explains the differential question I had. The Ford proving grounds does what you do and then tries to get to the answer and write a bulletin to explain or correct these type issues, see what they know, call with your Vin is one way, but demonstrating and getting it documented is the smart consumer response.
