Sounds like alternator is not charging have charging system checked should be charging at 14 volts

I know nothing of cars but I took a leap of faith and ordered alternator and belt. So I really hope so. So jumping it will do no good?

Have the new battery charged first and once vehicle is running can have charging system tested.

If alternator is working it will charge it self as far as labor for installing google how much to install alternator for your year , make and model and engine size will give you a good idea on labor cost.
