Spending too much gas

Does it need a tuneup and filter change? Do the tires need air? Is the check engine light on?

Why did you get an SUV if gas mileage is a concern ? You throw your stuff in and sit in traffic , of course the mileage won't be the "holy grail " they say it will be . Have you figured what your mileage actually is ?

If you are using the 87 octane gas try using the middle grade or better the high octane gas should notice a little better gas mileage.
The only difference a higher octane will make is to the thickness of your wallet. Any small gain in performance and fuel mileage will be offset by the higher cost of the fuel. Check your tires to see if they are properly inflated and modify your driving habits. That is about all you can do.
