08 Jetta wont crank

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

M y08 Jetta 2.5 shut down while driving along. I managed to pull off the road and put it
in park. I turned the key and it would not turn over. No dash lights, no alarm pings or
ding dings, gear shift stuck in park, no nothing. When I turn to the on position the fan
and radio works, windows work and remote locks work. But nothing from the key. No
warning lights either. The battery is fully charged I am sure of that. Lights and horn
work. I ran a jumper wire from the + on the battery to the starter and the starter spun
the engine over normally. Still no crank or dash lights. I removed the plug from the
ignition switch and jumped across the terminal and still nothing. Can anyone help. The
car belong to my elderly neighbor and she has no money to send the car to a VW
repair shop.

You may have a blown ignition switch fuse. I should be located under the hood in a fuse box usually near one of the fender wells.

Also try to reset an alarm malfunction by unlocking the car from the trunk or the passengers door.

Try putting the car in neutral if the car is a automatic and see if it starts then.

Also have your alternator tested. I have seen some vehicles that a bad alternator will cause the vehicle to shut down.

There could also be a blown fuse to alternator in fuse box.

I'm guessing either the serpentine belt snapped or the engine seized from never having oil or fluids changed, especially when you have electrical power. Call a charity and donate it for parts.

I too have the same problem with my y08 jetta. Went into the store to return an item, came out and tried to start the car. Nothing, but the radio, lights and windows worked. Called AAA and they tried jump starting it. Nothing. Towed it to the repair station where I go to and even he is stumped. Replaced the starter and now it will tick but won't turn the motor over and run. He spent the day trying to trouble shot with the electrical and so far, nothing. Has anyone found an answer for this problem? He even did a diagnostic on it and there was no reading.
