2008 Jetta radiator fan shuts but then turns back on and won't shut down?

Asked by LarryML86 Jul 05, 2015 at 04:42 PM about the 2008 Volkswagen Jetta SE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Replaced fans with aftermarket part,
did this twice because I assumed
that the first replacement was faulty
bc it didn't shut. Replaced the
antifreeze temperature sensor also
and it's still happening. I have to
remove the relays from the fuse box
every time I shut engine to prevent
this. Please help!

Have you actually let the fans run to see how long it would take before they cut off ? Your fans are most likely ok they are doing what they are supposed to do. They are most likely running because they still sense the motor is still hot. Check your temperature gauge when vehicle reaches operating temperature if it is reading high that is why your fans keep running trying to cool it down. You may have a bad t - stat or something causing the vehicle to get to hot.

Thank you for the answer! I'm timing them now they have just started shutting off about 15-20 min after I cut the engine, which is better than what I had before...it still Irks me that I can never walk away from the car not knowing if they are going to shut off or not that's a stressor, nobody wants to come back to a dead battery. My thermostat reads normal hasn't gone over the safe zone. Put some new antifreeze/coolant when I changed sensor so hopefully they keep shutting off! Thanks!

This may help clean your radiator and A.C condenser coil with a garden hose and nozzle or better yet a pressure washer they maybe partially clogged with dirt and bugs restricting air flow across the radiator and A.C coil.
