TIRE SENSOR FAULT Indicator light

Asked by Muircat1904 Jan 10, 2021 at 09:14 PM about the 2008 Ford Explorer XLT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

For the past year and a half, the Tire Sensor Fault indicator light has been
coming on in my 2008 Ford Explorer XLT whenever I drive more than 20
miles. I've had all the sensors checked numerous times by multiple
mechanics, including two Ford dealerships that cleared all the codes and
recalibrated the sensors, as well as the tires trying to remedy the problem
but they couldn't seem to find anything wrong. I've grown so tired of dealing
with this issue that as of yesterday, 1/9/2021, I bought 4 brand new tires and
4 brand new sensors from a Ford dealership just to get it to stop. The
mechanic at the Ford dealership even trained/synced everything
successfully in my presence to show it worked. The indicator light read
"TIRES TRAINED" and everything was good. At the end of the day today,
after driving far more than 20 miles; the TIRE FAULT" indicator light once
again came back on. Is this more of an electrical issue? Such as a bad relay,
a fuse, or something wrong with the computer? Because as I've stated, ALL
the tires and sensors are brand new as of yesterday and everything is
synced. What other possibility could this be? Any advice would be helpful. I
know they can't turn the sensors off because they are directly synced to the
computer, and I've replaced everything possible at this point!

You can check, but I believe you have to drive several miles for the sensor to trigger. On my 2010, it was about 15 miles. Do you have the same size tires on all four wheels? Larger or small diameter tires on one wheel, or on the back could trigger the system.
