2008 Avalon, the headlights will go off by them self, if I turn them off and then back they will come back on, anybody have any idea what might be happening

somebody said to try new headlamps. I will do this and post the results.
These headlights are defect. The whole assembly must be replaced AND good luck with that -- because most likely your dealer will say it's out of warranty. They cost over 1000 each..... plus labor... I've been looking for suitable alternatives for over one year. Check out the thread on edmunds.com.... regarding this problem. Some people think Toyota has issued an extension on these and the dealer should replace them... However, I do not believe this is so. But, who knows, you might just get blessed with a decent dealer who will do the right thing by you. Because Toyota knew they were defective and I believe should replace them no matter how many miles you have on the car. Good luck.
