Came back from a week vacation and am unable to get into my 2008 Toyota Avalon. Doors are locked and key remote does not work. How do I get under the hood to check the battery?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I do not have a standard key to open the door. No lights are working on the dash board.

Have you tried putting a new battery in remote fob? Also if you bought it new it came with a small metal tag with numbers on it. The dealer can make keys from that. And there is no way to open hood without being inside car

There is a key inside the fob. On the side of the fob you will see a button that reads "push", when pressed you can pull out the key (pull on the key ring). Use that key to unlock the door, then once in the car, hold the fob just above the start button for a couple seconds to start the car, then drive to get a new battery. Fyi, don't store your fib near your cellphone. The signal from the cellphone will drain the battery. Good luck!
