Question type: Shopping & Pricing

Due to medical conditions we are retired/disabled and require a more economical  car as I make many trips to the VA clinics, hospital from Milwaukee to Green Bay and Appleton a few times a month, My wife has several localized appointments here in Sheboygan and Manitowauk. Our intention are making an "even" trade with our 2004 Grand Jeep Cherokee Limited edition for a small economical car as a PT Cruiser/Smart Car/ KIA/etc. We were told our Jeep Cherokee has a value of about $4500. If we could make an even swap for like a 2006 PT Cruiser for around $2500 to $3000, an " even"  trade would not burden us with a monthly bill that we really cannot afford at this juncture of our lives. With the equity we have in our Jeep, a more small $2000-$3000 car on a deal could get us some closure on these killer prices for gas, etc.

Thanks for your question, I hope my advice serves you. I would definitely avoid the PT Cruiser, Hyundai, Kia, that you mention. If you want a very economical and dependable car, you cannot go wrong with a Volkswagen Jetta or Golf, especially with the diesel engine. VW gives the benefits of German engineering, very high fuel economy, dependability and a relatively low price. I hope this helps.

OK Kenny, Great sales pitch!! But you didn't answer my question. Can we possibly do an even trade of a 2-3 thousand dollar car (if available) with our 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited Edition that was appraised at $4500 dollars. You get the best of the deal. Not quite sure if my wife likes VW but it really depends on the car and deal. We want a clean even exchange with no payments
