Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a touring model 2008 PT Cruiser.  The rear hatch (or lift gate) stopped working a couple of months ago and stays "locked".  I've been told it might be fuse but have been unable to locate it.  All other doors are functioning nornally.

Hi, I'm no mechanic, but I can tell you this. There are two fuse boxes, at least that I know of so far. One.....standard, at your left knee, and the other, directly behind the airbox, in front of the prop rod. Black cover, two tabs on left, lift....viola!! Both removed panels clearly indicate where those fuses are.

We have a 2008 PT and while we found the fuse box in the engine compartment there is no fuse box in the passenger compartment by the driver's left knee. There is a power lock fuse but I couldn't see a separate one for the back hatch. Power door locks all work but the back hatch won't unlock and there is no key way at least on our model.

There is no fuse for that back hatch. Once it stops working, that’s it! No warning either. The part is about $260 at Ontario Chrysler dealers. Why Chrysler would not have made a keyed entrance, I’ll never know. This is my second PT cruiser that this has happened to. I had to crawl in the back, pull off the back panel and reach the latch manually. Today one Chrysler dealer told me this is a discontinued part as of a month ago.

GuruG3WVZ: I found the same for my 2010, discontinued. Can you share the part number?

Same situation I have a 2010 Chrysler PT cruiser I've had five PT cruisers in my time the 2001 to 2005 model have the fuse box on the driver's side by your knee. 2006 to 2010 Chrysler PT cruiser models fuse box is located underneath air filter under the hood. Chrysler discontinued the rear lift gate Chrysler emblem part. So I did the same as everyone else took the back plastic off on the inside of the rear lift gate and rigged a rope to the manual liftgate release in order to open and close my trunk unfortunately that is the only way cuz there is no key hole to open the trunk. Partsgeek.com I have seen the Chrysler liftgate emblem go for anywhere from 150 to $200 not including labor. Best way to get around all this go to the junkyard and grab one off another PT cruiser I must warn you it is very difficult because of the adhesive that keeps them on. Plus you never know what you're getting at the junkyard if it will work or not because it's electrical. Best of luck to all

Check Youtube, I saw a video a while back showing how to mount a tiny switch behind the emblem to bypass the original switch. About 3 bucks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wI4if- RXTBw&pp=ygUjcHQgY3J1aXNlciBsaWZ0Z2F0ZSB0b3VjaHBhZCBzd2l0Y2 g%3D
