08 equinox ltz- replaces thermostat last fall, fixed
overheating problem. This spring now it overheats
when parked running or at idle waiting in traffic or
drive thrus. Once you get it moving a decent
amount it cools right back down. What may be the
problem here?

Is the same solution applicable for a 2005 equinox?
@Ed92626, What if the cooling fan is running when the car is idle or stopped at a traffic light? What might the problem be?
problably is air trapped in the cooling system
This is the same issue I am having. But when it's put into drive, and I start going a certain speed it cools down. And my fans kick on.
I have a 2005 equinox, and I was having the same problem. What I did and its working is this, and just so you all know I was having the same issues with running hot in idle and while driving. I have changed the thermostat and water pump already. Your on the right track im finding out there is a lot of air in the coolant line. So what have been doing is bleeding the coolant line and how u do this is to turn on your heat full blast, fill up the coolant resivor and when it starts to run hot open the breather screw and allow the air to escape when it stops blowing close the bleeder screw allow the pressure to build and repeat the process. This not a quick process but I'm not over heating sitting idle or while running my a.c.
Also make sure your heat is on full blast i been at it for about a hour now but I'm getting the results I was looking for
My question is do you fill the overflow while the engine is off and cool and then started up let it get warm and when it starts to get hot open the bleeder
